Her manager for Latin America, Patricia Tellez, the woman who helped her go from being local artist to Grammy Winning global artist

Patricia Téllez, former manager of Shakira and the singer's longtime representative in her native Colombia, died Aug. 17 in Bogota of a heart attack. She was 47.
Téllez, who remained a close friend of Shakira's, first struck a relationship with
the singer/songwriter in 1995. She was her manager when Shakira released her breakthrough album, "Pies Descalzos," in 1996, and is credited with helping transform her from a local artist to an international star.
Shakira would subsequently sign management deals with Emilio Estefan, Freddy DeMann and, now, Ceci Kurzman. But Téllez remained her manager and representative in Colombia and was described as always having a "direct line" to the artist.

Prior to handling Shakira, Téllez represented budding tropical singer Carlos Vives. She later worked with a variety of acts before founding her Wide Vision firm six years ago, which ventured into concert promotion in addition to management.

Besides representing Shakira in Colombia, Téllez worked with Pies Descalzos, the foundation created by the singer to help the country's underprivileged
